Prospects after graduation

In view of demographic trends and the resulting shortage of skilled labour, the career prospects for physician assistants in the healthcare sector look very good. This is because they close an important gap in medical care and between doctor and patient. The degree programme enables you to take on tasks delegated by doctors. As a physician assistant, you will support the doctor at work and relieve them of certain tasks. The German Medical Association and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (Kassenärztliche Bundesvereinigung) name three areas in which doctors should be supported by medical assistants:

  1. general process management
  2. medical process and document management and
  3. delegable patient-related activities

Specifically, this results in the following possible areas of activity for you:

  • Assisting in the preparation of the diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Assisting with complex examinations and carrying out medical-technical activities, unless these are reserved for specialised professional groups
  • Participation in the implementation of a treatment plan
  • Participation in interventions
  • Assisting with emergency treatment
  • Appropriate communication and information transfer
  • Process management and team coordination
  • Support with documentation
