Private international (supplementary) insurance - what you should consider when choosing your insurance:

There are numerous providers of supplementary international insurance, international health insurance, special international insurance for students on a semester or internship abroad.

The fees are often very different. They also vary from insurance company to insurance company depending on the duration of the contract and the age of the policyholder. It almost always states: outpatient treatment by a doctor, medically prescribed medication, pain-relieving dental treatment, medically prescribed aids following an accident, etc. are covered. However, there are big differences in the small print. In addition to the advertised contractual benefits, everyone should also inform themselves about the benefit limits and exclusions.

DAAD insurance for Germans abroad
Interns, students, academics and their partners and children of members of German universities who

    are doing an internship abroad or
    are studying or doing a doctorate abroad or
    are teaching or researching abroad

and

    receive funding from DAAD programs (e.g. PROMOS) or
    receive funding from European Union programs (e.g. Erasmus+) or
    are placed and supervised by a DAAD partner organization

have the opportunity to participate in a group insurance policy at very favorable conditions including includes health insurance, personal liability and accident insurance. More information here.

Entry

  • For interns, a Temporary Worker-Government Authorised Exchange visa (T5) is required for a stay in the United Kingdom as part of the Erasmus+ programme. Further information on visa requirements for the United Kingdom please view here.
  • After arrival in the host country, certain registration formalities usually have to be observed, which usually also affect EU citizens in EU countries (e.g. registration of residence, application for a residence permit). Information on this can be obtained from the host universities.
