Experimental Investigation of ADC Solutions for an Acoustic Measurement System
Abstract
Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is an omnipresent composite with many advantages although it is still challenging to ensure its reliability during lifetime. One approach to face this challenge is to use so called Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Presented work is part of a project with the goal to develop a contactless measurement system for health monitoring of FRP structures. After introducing the project’s background the theoretical concept of the measurement system and the planned hardware implementation are described. The article focuses on the selection and characterization of the hardware components to be used in the system to perform the essential analog-to-digital conversion step. Available analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) as well as signal amplifiers are discussed and their noise performance is compared.
