Students from the two medical courses “Physician Assistant” and “Biomedical Engineering” had the opportunity to learn from experienced specialists and get hands-on experience on Wednesday at Landshut University of Applied Sciences. The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies organised the “Hands-on-Tag Medizin” (Hands-on Day of Medicine”) along with the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering.
Whether in the surgery workshop with Dr Alexander Pflügler, consultant at Landshut-Achdorf hospital, in sonography training with internal medicine specialist Dr Martin Witzko or in emergency training on the simulation manikin with Dr Kirsten Oppek, specialist for anaesthesiology and emergency medicine from Klinikum rechts der Isar, and Prof. Aida Anetsberger, specialist for anaesthesiology, intensive care and emergency medicine, the students took advantage of the special offer on the day of action with great enthusiasm.
Valuable practical experience for students
“We are very pleased that the workshops and demonstrations were so well received by our students,” said Anetsberger, who heads up the “Physician Assistant” course at Landshut University of Applied Sciences. A big thank you was sent to all the doctors and professors who took part. “The day of action was hugely valuable for the participants and an important building block in their academic training.”
In order to consolidate their foundational knowledge and promote better visual thinking, the students were able to follow important anatomical structures on a virtual dissecting table and to look at physiological and pathological processes in the body in 3D. PA students were able to gain an insight into the technical details of sonography in the workshop with Prof. Stefanie Remmele from the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering. Together with Prof. Christopher Auer and her working groups, Remmele also took the opportunity to exchange views scientifically with medical practitioners on the topic of augmented reality.
