As of Sunday the Landshut University of Applied Sciences has a new president. The certificate of appointment for his first term of office was officially presented to Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher on Tuesday in Munich. The current Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering will steer the fortunes of Landshut University of Applied Sciences for the next five years. Pörnbacher succeeds Prof. Dr. Karl Stoffel.
Minister of Science Bernd Sibler emphasised at the presentation of the certificate of appointment: "Heading Landshut University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Pörnbacher has great creative freedom to further enhance its profile." With his wealth of experience, he brings crucial expertise with him to develop the university into a future-oriented place of learning and research, where the entire university family can develop its potential even further. "The course has been set: the foundation on which Landshut University of Applied Sciences stands is solid and strong," Sibler says. He is curious about the momentum that Prof. Dr. Pörnbacher will provide on the Lower Bavarian university landscape. "I am very much looking forward to working with him and wish him all the best for his new office!"
About the new president of the Landshut University of Applied Sciences
Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher came to Landshut University of Applied Sciences in 1995 as a professor in the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering. For many years he was actively involved in almost all the university's committees. He has been Dean of his faculty since 2010. In these positions, he was involved in developing and establishing many new degree programmes and built the faculty into the largest at the university. The doctor of electrical engineering previously worked as a development engineer and in management at Siemens AG.
More than 4,700 students are enrolled at Landshut University of Applied Sciences. The six faculties of Business Administration, Electrical and Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Mechanical Engineering and Social Work offer a thematically varied range of more than 30 Bachelor and Master degree programmes. Landshut University of Applied Sciences is one of the first three universities in Bavaria to introduce the midwifery course.
