University alumnus wins essay competition

First prize in this year's Peter Drucker Challenge goes to Seyedebrahim Safavi

Best Essay in the renowned Peter Drucker Challenge – Seyedebrahim Safavi, who graduated in business administration from Landshut University of Applied Sciences in 2019, was recently able to celebrate this special award. His essay entitled "The clock wasn't showing 100 seconds to midnight anymore" won in the manager/entrepreneur category. Safavi now works as an account manager at Aximpro GmbH and was an active member of the student council during his studies.

Having followed the competition closely for some time, Safavi decided to enter in 2020 and submit an essay. "This year's theme, 'Leadership and Critical Thinking', was exactly what I was interested in," Safavi explains. In his essay, he reflects on what makes good and bad leaders and what impact their decisions have on mankind's well-being and suffering.

Great joy about the award

"When writing, I was inspired by my own hopes and fears," says Safavi, "but also by the work 'Sapiens. A Brief History of Mankind' by the Israeli historian Yuval Noah Harari." The college alumnus never would have thought it possible that his essay would do so well. "I couldn't keep quiet when I got the result," Safavi recalls. "I must have read that email at least five times before it sunk in."

University President Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher also congratulated this great success in the Peter Drucker Challenge: "Winning this internationally highly acclaimed competition is an extraordinary achievement. The University of Applied Sciences Landshut is very proud of its former student Seyedebrahim Safavi."

Every year the Peter Drucker Society Europe and the Drucker Forum search for the most creative papers on current management topics worldwide, which at the same time should establish a link to Peter Drucker's philosophy. The American-Austrian economist is regarded as one of the pioneers of management theory. Among other things, the Challenge is endowed with a cash prize of EUR 1,500.
