Welcome to Campus

Landshut University of Applied Sciences welcomes around 1,400 first-year students for the 2021/22 winter semester

A great day for all the new freshmen. In the course of the so-called “Campus (Re)Start”, Landshut University of Applied Sciences welcomed numerous first-year students to campus on 1 October. Almost 1,400 of them are starting their Bachelor's or Master's studies in the 2021/22 winter semester. Around 4,650 students are enrolled in total. Compared to the previous year, this is an increase of almost 200. “This positive trend is mainly due to the many new degree programmes that we have been able to offer from this semester,” explains University President Prof. Dr Fritz Pörnbacher. There are 13 of them: from “Civil Engineering”, “Intelligent Systems and Smart Factory”, “Physician Assistant”, “Tax Consultancy” and “New Media and Intercultural Communication” to “Artificial Intelligence”.

Programme lasting several days

Like last year, the course start dates are spread over several days. 1 October was mainly reserved for the six faculties of Business Administration, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Mechanical Engineering and Social Work. First and foremost, we answered first-year students’ most pressing questions: What is my course like? What does my lecture schedule look like? Who are my contacts?

The individual faculties set up their own programmes – in person and, in some cases, online: Among other things, they offered campus and library tours, an “Enter Game”, panel discussions or Q&A sessions with tutors. As with all Bavarian universities, the 3G rule will be applicable in Landshut in future. It is the foundation for more than 50 per cent of all events, lectures and seminars to be held in person again.

Further introductory events from 4 October

Nevertheless, Landshut University of Applied Sciences is continuing to offer online formats that have proven their worth. The “Studierenden-Service-Zentrum” (Student Service Centre), the “Zentrale Studienberatung & Karriereservice” (Central Student Advisory Service & Career Service) and the “International Office” will introduce themselves digitally as part of the “Campus (Re)Start” on Tuesday 5 October, from 5 to 6 pm and on Monday 11 October, from 6 to 7 pm. You can find more information at www.haw-landshut.de/studienstart.

One final important part of the semester opening programme is another day of action on 6 October from 10 am. This is aimed not only at first-year students, but at all Landshut students. “After this long period without being able to be here in person, we would very much like to welcome all our students back here,” emphasises organiser Sophie Heitzer from the Student Advisory Service. The programme includes a small fair on the topic of “study organisation and campus life”, the opening of a new lounge for students, a small stringed-instrument concert and a get-together with the student council and associations.
