Description:
The aim of CHRONOS Archiving was to create an archiving tool for the content of relational databases. The archived data is stored consistently and independently of the original system in an open archive format and can therefore be imported back into any version of any manufacturer. If changes are made to the table structure or semantics of the data, CHRONOS Archiving recognises this and data can be searched or re-imported together across these change boundaries. By indexing the archives, a search engine can efficiently access the data and selectively import it back into the database, taking relational dependencies into account.
The project has now been completed. The results of the project have been channelled into a market-ready product for the digital long-term archiving of relational databases, which is distributed, maintained and further developed by the company CSP GmbH & Co. The product is already being used by numerous well-known companies.

Responsible for the project: Prof. Dr Peter Scholz
