Accredited degree program

Automotive Engineering and Management
Bachelor

In addition to a solid basic education in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and business administration, the engineering degree programme covers the special requirements of the automotive industry. In the technical area, all components of an automobile are covered, including new drive technologies such as electric drive. The business management training is orientated towards the value creation process typical of the industry and the accompanying services.

    Programme content

The Automotive Engineering and Technology degree programme teaches the fundamentals of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, business administration, mathematics, physics and computer science. It also deals with the special requirements of the automotive industry in specific modules of automotive economics and technology.

The programme content is future-oriented, interdisciplinary and practical. The theoretical knowledge acquired is consolidated in laboratory practicals specifically tailored to the modules. 6 ECTS credits of general studies are also integrated into the programme. It serves to promote interdisciplinary work and key competences.

    Study programme

The degree programme has a modular structure and allows students to create their own individual profile in the specialisation programme with compulsory elective modules. A total of 210 ECTS credits are earned.

The modules in the 1st and 2nd semesters teach technical and business fundamentals. The 3rd and 4th semesters serve to deepen the knowledge already acquired, but above all to provide an introduction to the knowledge areas of automotive economics and technology.

The 5th semester is the practical semester. It comprises at least 80 working days in a company and can be completed in Germany or abroad. The practical work is accompanied by a practical seminar organised by the university.

The specialisation course begins in the 6th semester and covers all vehicle assemblies and the entire value chain in the automotive sector. In two compulsory elective modules, they acquire additional skills and competences for their career entry from an extensive range of options. The Bachelor's thesis is completed during the specialisation programme.

    Modules

Basic and advanced modules in the 1st-4th semester (examples):
Engineering mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, technical mechanics, fundamentals of business administration and economics, electronics and measurement technology, regenerative and conventional energy technology, control engineering, fundamentals of automotive engineering and automotive economics, project management, production engineering

Practical phase in the 5th semester:
Practical time in the company, practical seminar, general studies

Specialisation studies in the 6th and 7th semesters (examples):
Automotive engineering modules: chassis, drive concepts, electrics/electronics, body technology
Automotive industry modules: value chain (incl. development and production), marketing (incl. distribution and trade), management topics

Compulsory elective module: e.g. production and process planning, technical purchasing, quality management

    Practical orientation

All degree programmes at the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering are characterised by a high degree of practical and application orientation.
In addition to the theoretical lectures, many of the modules on offer include laboratory practicals with specific content. In these, the theoretical knowledge acquired is tested, expanded and consolidated in practice in our more than 20 modern laboratories. Project work also serves to creatively and practically implement what has been learnt.
In the 5th semester, students also complete a practical semester of at least 80 working days in a company of their choice in Germany or abroad.
