Programme content
The degree programme teaches specialist knowledge and skills in the fields of economics, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering as well as the basics of computer science, mathematics and natural sciences. In addition, integrative modules deal with the integration of business and technology. The international focus of the degree programme is implemented on the one hand through the international orientation of the course content and on the other hand through modules partly taught in English, a second foreign language and one or more stays abroad.
Special features of this degree programme are
- Broad coverage of international industrial engineering topics, particularly in the areas of procurement, production and logistics
- One to three semesters abroad, either as a practical semester or as a theoretical semester at one of our more than 70 partner universities
- At least one English-language module per semester during the entire degree programme
- High level of intercultural competence, mobility and flexibility
- Intensive coverage of electrical engineering content
- Consistent combination of technical, business and international knowledge, skills and competences.
Study programme
The Bachelor's degree programme comprises six theoretical semesters and one practical semester, including at least one semester abroad. A total of 210 ECTS credits are earned. The degree programme has a modular structure and allows students to create their own individual profile with elective modules in the specialisation programme.
In the first and second semesters, students are introduced to economics, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering as well as the necessary mathematics and the basics of computer science, including programming. Knowledge is rebuilt in all modules so that students can find a connection, regardless of their previous educational background.
In the 3rd and 4th semesters, students acquire the knowledge they need to work professionally with specialists in companies. The modules for individual functional areas in the company, engineering, integrative topics and international orientation serve this purpose.
In the 5th semester, students spend at least 80 working days in a company outside the university.
In the 6th and 7th semesters, students choose from an extensive catalogue of modules in the areas of technology, business administration, integration and internationalisation. This allows them to delve deeper into specialist areas and to specify their knowledge and sharpen their profile. The Bachelor's thesis in English and a seminar conclude the course.
Modules
The modules in semesters 1 to 4 teach the fundamentals of technology and business administration as well as their integrative combination and international application. Each semester contains at least one subject-specific module in English.
Modules in the 1st to 4th semesters (examples):
- German-language: Engineering Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Computer Science, Electronics and Measurement Technology, Production Engineering, Design and Development, Bookkeeping and Accounting, Finance and Investment Management, Cost and Performance Accounting, Software Tools
- in English: Principles of Business Administration and Economics; Applied Physics; Procurement, Manufacturing and Logistics; Marketing and Sales; Project Management; International Business and Cross-cultural Communication; English
The 4th semester is followed by the practical semester and two theoretical semesters of the specialisation programme, including the Bachelor's thesis in English. At least one of these three semesters is completed abroad in a foreign language. In order to be able to plan the stay abroad as flexibly as possible, the order of the last three semesters is not fixed. The timing of the modules in English and in the second foreign language can also be adapted to the destination country of the stay abroad.
- Practical semester
Practical time in the company, practical seminar
Specialisation modules in the 5th to 7th semester (examples):
- "Technology" module group: sensor technology, internet technologies, automation technology
- "Business administration" module group: ERP systems, controlling, private commercial law
- "Integration" module group: logistics and factory planning, quality management, database systems and applications
- "Internationalisation" module group: International procurement, international production networks and logistics
- 2nd foreign language
Practical orientation
All degree programmes at the Faculty of Electrical and Industrial Engineering are characterised by a high degree of practical and application orientation.
In addition to the theoretical lectures, many of the modules on offer include laboratory practicals with specific content. In these, the theoretical knowledge acquired is tested, expanded and consolidated in practice in our more than 20 modern laboratories. Project work also serves to creatively and practically implement what has been learnt.
In the 5th semester, students also complete a practical semester of at least 80 working days in a company of their choice in Germany or abroad.
