Equipment

  • Five independent laboratory workstations for groups of two students each
  • Five PC workstations with Internet connection and partial PC connection to the measuring stations

Practical experiments

  • Photovoltaic and fuel cell measuring station for determining current-voltage characteristics and power and for assessing differences in crystalline and amorphous solar cells and in PEM and methanol fuel cells
  • Calorimetric determination of heating and calorific values for solid, liquid and gaseous substances using bomb and glass-jacket calorimeters
  • Determination of the efficiency of a solar collector at different temperature levels of a water storage tank and determination of the temperature behaviour of absorbers with different coatings
  • Determining the mechanical power and electrical power of a glass-jacketed Stirling engine and determining the mechanical work by measuring the pressure-volume (pV) cycle
  • Purification of flue gases (ingredients: hydrogen chloride or sulphur dioxide) by absorption in an aqueous calcium hydroxide solution
