Equipment:

Various saws for sampling and sample preparation; unit for hot mounting, grinding and polishing tables, two light microscopes, scanning electron microscope with EDX analysis unit, two analysing computers.

Six laboratory workstations for scanning electron microscopy:

  • Sampling and sample preparation
  • Embedding in different embedding media
  • Preparation of a metallographic section
  • Examination of the microstructure using light microscopy
  • Scanning electron microscope analysis
  • Evaluation of the images using quantitative image analysis methods

Up to six students can carry out the scanning electron microscopy practical course (Bachelor's degree programmes, 6th semester) at the same time.
