The "Institute for Data and Process Science" is a new interdisciplinary and cross-faculty research institution at Landshut University of Applied Sciences. The founders are Prof. Dr. Holger Timinger from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management, Prof. Dr. Maren Martens from the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Mona Riemenschneider from the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies and Prof. Dr. Abdelmajid Khelil from the Faculty of Computer Science. The institute also has twelve research assistants who are financed by public third-party funds and are working on their doctorates.
"The institute's focus is on important future topics in the areas of digitisation and the future of work, including project and development management," explains Timinger, who was elected head of the institute. "We want to provide important moment in artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things, data mining and predictive statistics," adds the institute's deputy director Martens. As a result, the institute is addressing many areas of digital transformation and agile working and can therefore make innovative contributions to shaping the future.
Projects with regional relevance
The topics are dealt with in research, teaching and transfer. Current and future projects are funded by the European Union, the Federal Government and the State of Bavaria, but always have a regional focus and therefore serve to strengthen the local business and industrial location.
In the area of teaching, there are seminars in the Master's degree, for doctoral students, the "Systems and Project Management" executive education course and other certificate courses on offer. The institute also runs the IoT (Internet of Things) Innovation Laboratory where joint projects can also be carried out with partners from outside the university.
In the field of transfer, the institute is heavily involved in the East Bavarian "Transfer and Innovation East Bavaria (TRIO)" network and organises the "Network Forum Project Management" every semester.
The newly founded "Institute for Data and Process Science" emerged from the "Institute for Project Management and Information Modelling", expanding it in terms of personnel and adding important future topics. The institute offers interested companies, research institutions and students a wide range of opportunities for cooperation.
