Just under 1,400 new students have been looking forward to this day for weeks and months – the start of their studies. Breathing in the campus air for the first time, sitting in one of the lecture theatres for the first time, getting to know the other students for the first time.
After several weeks without lectures, the Landshut campus was filled with life again on 4 October. The six faculties Business Administration, Electrical and Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Mechanical Engineering and Social Work had set up a comprehensive induction programme to welcome the newcomers and prepare them for the next seven semesters. More than 50 Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in total started – from “Civil Engineering” to “Artificial Intelligence” and “Tax Consultancy” to “Social Work”.
Close links between the university and city and district
“Digital Administrative Management” is a completely new course being offered from this semester, which involves a close cooperation between the university, the city and the district of Landshut. Naturally, the Mayor of Landshut, Alexander Putz, was not going to miss out on welcoming the first-year students via a Zoom call. “I can only congratulate you on your choice of course,” Putz says. “With your knowledge, you will soon be able to create the prerequisites for the administration of the future.” As a rapidly growing municipality, Landshut is urgently looking for qualified junior staff, like those with qualifications from Landshut University of Applied Sciences.
Bavaria’s Minister of Digital Affairs Judith Gerlach also sent a video message to the lecture hall and emphasised the great importance of the new course. “You will help build the bridge between IT and administration in the future,” says Gerlach. “You will be superbly prepared to help shape a modern and capable state.”
In addition to attending the respective induction events, the students had the opportunity to take part in campus or laboratory tours, depending on their course, and therefore get to know their academic home for the next few years even better. Central campus facilities such as the Student Advisory Service, the International Office or the library as well as several campus clubs are presenting themselves at the “Market of Opportunities” in the G building on 12 October.
