The years of learning have paid off: 600 of the 1,053 graduates of Landshut University of Applied Sciences celebrated the successful completion of their studies at the Sparkassen-Arena in Landshut on 10 November. The graduates of Bachelor and Master's degree programmes were joined at the Graduation Ceremony by friends and family, as well as by politicians and patrons of the university. Musical entertainment was provided by local band Die Meschpoke!
Honours for the best graduates
The 29 graduates who achieved the highest grades in their respective degree programmes were particularly happy to receive their honours. Second Mayor Dr. Thomas Keyßner presented the City of Landshut prize for the best Bachelor's degree to Silvio Giebl. Josef Ebermayer received the District of Landshut prize for best Master's degree from Fritz Wittmann, the deputy head of the district authority. In his laudatory speech, Prof. Holger Timinger, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, praised the doctoral theses of Dr. Korbinian Nachtmann and Dr. Johannes Bauer, which were produced in conjunction with PhD supervisors at universities and at Landshut University of Applied Sciences.
Jana Göllner was presented with a special accolade: Prof. Detlev Maurer, Vice President for Internationalisation, handed her the DAAD award, which is accompanied by a prize of 1,000 euros, for her commitment to social causes. Ms Göllner has supported many deaf people as well as children with a migrant background and is involved with Amnesty International in Prague working against global political injustice.
Good prospects for the future
President Prof. Karl Stoffel congratulated all the graduates: "You can be proud of yourselves. Completing your studies provides you with a ticket into the world of work, securing you a position as a specialist or manager," and expressed his thanks in these words: "I would like to thank you once again, dear graduates, for choosing to study at Landshut University of Applied Sciences." Rainer Haselbeck, the district president of Lower Bavaria, added: "You are ready for the next step. You have excellent starting conditions for a successful working life. You have demonstrated that you have stamina, including for the long haul. You can be tenacious, you can overcome obstacles."
The university was praised by Anna Nieß, former chair of the student administration: "We are now beginning a new phase in our lives and are setting ourselves new challenges in life. We have acquired competencies to achieve the goals we are passionate about." She thanked parents, lecturers, facility managers and the university management: "Looking back, we can be proud of what we have achieved during our studies. However, we can't take all the credit for our successes. This time was special, above all, due to you."
