At the end of June 2024, the elections of the doctoral members for the Doctoral Committee and Steering Committee took place at the DigiTech Doctoral Centre. The elected members thus complement the competent decision-making bodies and ensure further progress in the exercise of the independent right to award doctorates at Landshut University of Applied Sciences.
Landshut doctoral students want to make a difference
Anna Schidek and Alexander Schön were elected as main representatives by their peers. The respective committees met immediately in the first week after the election and work began. The two are always in contact with other doctoral students at the DigiTech doctoral centre to make decisions. Anna Schidek sees this as an opportunity to "incorporate the views and everyday challenges of the doctoral students into the long-term processes so that they are also practicable". The "enthusiasm for new technologies and innovations in the STEM field" is the reason for his involvement, says Alexander Schön. It is very important to both Landshut doctoral candidates to see the doctoral process from the perspective of the doctoral candidates and to familiarise the professors with it.
Day-to-day business and strategic orientation
Alexander Schön is an advisory member of the Doctoral Committee. The Doctoral Committee decides on the admission of new doctoral candidates and initiates the doctoral procedure. It also appoints the supervisors and sets up the examination board. Alexander Schön is thus entrusted with the "day-to-day business", so to speak. Anna Schidek is a voting member of the steering committee alongside Stefan Kunze from Deggendorf Institute of Technology. The steering committee is entrusted with the entire scientific quality assurance and also decides on the admission of new professorial members. The tasks thus include the strategic orientation of the doctoral centre and its processes.
Ms Schidek, Mr Schön and Mr Kunze will now bring the interests and perspectives of doctoral students to the committees. We wish them all the best for their time in office.
