Fire protection

Fire protection encompasses all measures that prevent the development of a fire or counteract the spread of a fire. The aim of the fire safety officer is to ensure the safety of staff, lecturers and students. The fire safety officer provides advice and support in all matters relating to preventive, defensive and organisational fire safety as well as operational emergency management.

The tasks of the fire safety officer

  • Creating / updating the fire safety regulations
  • Assisting in the assessment of fire hazards at workplaces
  • Advising on flammable work processes and the use of flammable materials
  • Assisting in the identification of fire and explosion hazards
  • Assisting in the preparation of operating instructions, insofar as they relate to fire protection
  • Advising on structural, technical and organisational measures as far as they relate to fire protection
  • Advising on the implementation of official orders and fire insurer requirements, insofar as they relate to fire protection
  • Assisting with compliance with fire safety regulations for new buildings, conversions and extensions, changes of use, rentals and procurements
  • Supporting the university in communicating with fire protection authorities and fire brigades, fire insurers, statutory accident insurance providers, state health and safety authorities, etc.
  • Documenting fire safety activities, inspection reports, test reports, defect reports and annual reports
