Cooperative doctorate
Cooperations between universities of applied sciences and universities
Until now, it was common that doctorates at a university of applied sciences were always carried out in cooperation with a university with the right to award doctorates. In this construct, professors from the respective university of applied sciences are supervisors and can be (second) reviewers as well. However, the cooperating university awards the doctoral degree.
In the case of a cooperative doctorate, the doctoral candidates are noted on the doctoral list of the respective university. In many cases, they can also enrol in special programmes. The doctoral regulations of the universities specify the requirements for the doctorate and any further educational requirements. Cooperative doctorates can either take place on the basis of bilateral relationships between a university of applied sciences and a university or within a joint doctorate.
