In the IoT lab, we want to prepare students for the development and use of key technologies in relation to IoT, Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence. The aim is for students to acquire the skills that are becoming increasingly important for the professional and start-up world, in particular

  • understanding what IoT and AI are,
  • assess the benefits, potential and risks of IoT and AI,
  • gain practical experience in agile software development for IoT and AI,
  • test solution ideas and develop agile proof-of-concepts,
  • independently develop, experimentally test and apply security concepts for IoT.

This is achieved above all through the practical application of agile software and system development methods in group work in order to develop innovative prototypes in the field of digitalisation.

Equipment:

In addition to 7 ergonomic table islands for up to 6 students each, the laboratory is equipped with the following technologies:

  • Fully automatic electronic room booking via Outlook/Exchange
  • 3 individually usable display devices, wireless (AirPlay and MiraCast) and HDMI
  • 8x full Gigabit network per lab bench for maximum connectivity
  • WIFI6 available at all times for individual project work
  • Prototyping sets with over 100 different sensors for Raspberry Pi and Arduino
  • Raspberry Pi 2, 3 and 4 for exercises and own projects
  • Arduino UNO for exercises and own projects
  • Infrastructure for virtualisation and containerisation for exercises and own projects
  • Digital inventory system with lending function for students
