Automotive informatics
Bachelor

The "Automotive Informatics" Bachelor's degree programme is the logical response to the current trend in the automotive industry. In contrast to a Master's programme, the necessary fundamentals of electrical and mechanical engineering are taught right from the start. Furthermore, the programme deliberately teaches a systems approach. Vehicle software is practically always embedded in a technical process. Efficient software development therefore begins at the functional level and not at the programming level of a control unit. At the end of their studies, students will therefore be able to develop complex systems in an interdisciplinary team and not just encapsulated software modules. Nevertheless, this degree programme is a genuine computer science course that teaches all the important skills of core computer science.

    Programme content

In addition to the classic computer science content, this degree programme teaches the necessary fundamentals of electrical engineering and automotive engineering. Furthermore, the programme deliberately teaches a systems approach. Vehicle software is always embedded in a technical process. Efficient software development begins at the functional level and not at the programming level of a control unit. At the end of their studies, students will be able to develop complex vehicle systems in an interdisciplinary team and not just encapsulated software modules. This degree programme is a computer science course that teaches all the important skills of core computer science. Of great importance is the consistent interdisciplinary orientation of the programme, which combines the main disciplines of automotive engineering - mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science.

    Study programme

The degree programme is a full-time course with a standard period of study of seven semesters. A total of 210 ECTS points, i.e. credit points according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS points), are awarded for successful completion of the programme. The full-time programme comprises six theoretical semesters and a practical semester, which is run as a fifth semester. The programme is divided into two study sections. The first part of the programme covers the first two semesters and teaches the basics. The second study section comprises the following five semesters. The programme concludes with a Bachelor's thesis.

    Module overview

The module overview in the degree programme provides a graphical representation of the course content over the seven semesters, including a chronological order and distribution of ECTS credits.

    Internship

The fifth semester is a practical semester in the business world. Students share their experiences in a seminar. The practical semester can be spent abroad, which is actively supported by the university.
